WordWend is a word puzzle made by Disruptive Muse, LLC. We have tried to keep this short and truthful rather than long and defensive. As it works today there is no account: the app does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or payment details. If that ever changes, this page changes first.

What the app collects

When you play, WordWend sends us a record of how the puzzle went:

• which puzzle you played, and when you started and finished it;
• how long you took, how many bonks you made, and how many gusts you used;
• the path you traced through the grid;
• a random identifier created on your device the first time you play.

That identifier is a random string. It is not derived from your device, your phone number, or anything about you, and it is not shared with anyone. Its only job is to let us tell "one person played ten days in a row" apart from "ten people played once" — the difference between a game worth continuing and one that isn't.

What stays on your device

Your progress — which camps you have reached, your streak, your theme and sound preferences — is stored on your device and is not uploaded. Deleting the app deletes it.

What the app does not do today

• It shows no ads, and we do not sell your data or share it with data brokers.
• It does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
• It never asks for your device's location, contacts, photos, microphone, or camera. (An IP address does imply a rough city — see the note on server logs below.)
• The iPhone and Android apps contain no third-party analytics.

This describes WordWend as it is now. If that ever changes, this page is updated before the change ships, and the date above changes with it.

The website at wordwend.com uses Google Analytics to count visits, as most websites do. The apps do not. If you would rather not be counted there, browser settings and tracker blockers work normally.

Our web server also keeps an ordinary access log, the kind every web server keeps: the IP address a request came from, when it arrived, and what it asked for. We use it to see how much traffic the site is getting and to spot abuse, and we look at roughly which city an address maps to so we know where players are finding us. Those logs are deleted after 60 days.

Two things worth being straight about. The apps talk to the same server to fetch each day's puzzle, so an app's requests appear in that log too, exactly like a web visit. And we never join those logs to your gameplay records — the gameplay side carries no IP address at all, so there is nothing to join them on.

Sharing a result

When you tap Share Your Journey, your phone's own share sheet opens and you choose where the picture goes. We are not involved in that and receive nothing from it.

Children

WordWend is a general-audience puzzle game. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Where the data lives, and for how long

Gameplay records are held on servers we operate in the United States — which may be hardware we own or cloud hosting we rent — and are not sold or handed to anyone else. We keep them while they are useful for understanding whether the game is working, and delete or aggregate them when they are not.

Can you ask us to delete it?

There is nothing for us to look up. The identifier is random, the app never shows it to you, and it is not connected to your name, your email, your device, or anything else about you — so we could not find "your" records even if you asked us to, and we are not going to ask you for personal details in order to create a link that does not currently exist.

To stop collection entirely, delete the app. That ends it, and takes your on-device progress with it. If we ever add accounts or anything that identifies a player, this section changes and a real deletion route comes with it.

If we start collecting something new, this page changes first, and the date at the top changes with it.
